After Thanksgiving week, Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday, you might think that it's time to let your credit card cool off for a bit. You'd be wrong. Today is #GivingTuesday and it's all about taking a break from our normal consumer habits to donate to organizations that do good. The idea is pretty simple: if you can afford to blow a bunch of cash on stuff you don't need (hello, ASOS crop top!) then you can also afford to give back.
If you want to give back in a way that helps elephants, we've rounded up some of our favorite organizations. Learn more about them and consider sending some money their way, it'll make a world of difference.
THE ORG: Space For Giants
THEIR PITCH: Space for Giants is an international conservation organisation that protects the great wildlife landscapes that Africa's remaining elephants need to thrive. These landscapes give homes to giants, but they also bring great value to people and nations: biodiversity, livelihoods and enterprise, new medicines, carbon storage, even the very oxygen we breathe.
THE ORG: A Rocha
THEIR PITCH: A Rocha India’s conservation programs are largely based on mitigation measures reducing the threat of human-animal conflict in the highly fragmented landscape of Bannerghatta National Park (BNP). We believe that community is an essential key to conservation and therefore there is a requirement for sensitization and collaboration among local key factions. Conservation in India depends upon the support of future generations. Our education programs are based on a hands-on approach to understanding the reality and challenges facing our natural heritage.
THE ORG: 96 Elephants by Wildlife Conservation Society
THEIR PITCH: 96 Elephants are killed every day. The 96 Elephants initiative aims to stop that with a three-pronged strategy: Stop the killing. Stop the trafficking. Stop the demand.
THE ORG: The Bodhi Tree Foundation
THEIR PITCH: The Bodhi Tree Foundation is dedicated to mobilizing and enabling the travel community and travelers to nurture the most effective grassroots charitable initiatives around the world. By focusing on projects and initiatives that preserve cultural heritage, help people in need and conserve our planet’s biodiversity, we hope to protect the world’s cultural and natural treasures for future travelers to enjoy.
THE ORG: David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation (DSW)
THEIR PITCH: DSW's mission is to raise vital funds supporting front line conservation projects which help secure a future for wildlife in their natural habitat. They work to fight wildlife crime through ranger programs and law enforcement, to engage with communities to educate and raise awareness to reduce threats to wildlife and to campaign for stronger wildlife laws and to reduce consumer demand for wildlife products.
